She
I hear her
whisper softly,
I hear her call
my name
Once more she
spreads her web, ensnares me once again
Again I run to
her; fall ’neath her siren spell,
She takes me in
and holds me, in an embrace I know so well,
Yet I know she
lies to me, she holds many other men
Takes us in and
uses us, then takes us back again.
My mistress is
but a highway, who will kill me in the end
In some lonesome
canyon, or around some deadly bend,
Still I hear her
calling me as again she casts her spell,
I love her and I
hate her, she knows me much too well

Dave Madill
is a long-haul Canadian trucker
who was on the road for over 25 years. An outdoorsman and former
serviceman, most of all he’s a father, grandfather and a husband. He’s
delivered everything that can fit on a semi-truck and a few things that
didn’t. If a road goes there, Dave’s been there –and he’s been many places
where there were no roads. This is his second collection of poetry; poetry
lines written from between the (highway) lines
